However, this work-around is not persistent, and must be repeated after each reboot of the VM. The standard workaround is to disable and enable the Shared Folders feature of the VM from the Workstation GUI while the VM is running. There is a known issue where shared folders fail to mount in the VM at boot time. If not, use your VM's distribution's package management system to install them. Workstation (and Fusion on the Mac) seem to disable the installation of VMware Tools from the GUI for Linux distributions they know include the tools.Ĭheck to see if both of those packages are installed in your guest Linux VM (not the host operating system).
VMware recommends that you use the open source implementations of VMware Tools (open-vm-tools and open-vm-tools-desktop) that have been included with Linux distributions for a few years now.
